GENERAL RELEASE FEBRUARY 21st, 2025
Overview
We've updated Bold to improve how pay, bill, and markup fields function together. Users will find it easier to manage these fields and control automatic updates. Some existing jobs, templates, or placements may require adjustments for desired configurations. These changes aim to reduce unexpected issues with overtime pay and bill rates affected by regular pay adjustments.

Why Are Pay and Bill Fields Changing?
Customer feedback revealed that override controls for markups and OT/DT bill rates were unclear, often causing incorrect pay and bill calculations.
Users expect automatic field updates when placing or updating talent, but these weren’t always working as intended.
The update improves the user interface with more precise override controls and enhances how data is calculated, saved, and displayed. These changes ensure accurate, consistent rate handling across Bold, reducing manual adjustments and errors in Classic Back Office.
Issue and Impact on Bold Customers
The Bold interface previously had a single "Custom Rates" checkbox that disabled automatic overtime calculations. To override overtime or double-time markups, users had to check this box, which prevented automatic updates and led to incorrect pay or bill rates.
The update replaces this with individual override checkboxes for each overtime and double-time pay, bill, and markup field. Checked fields won’t auto-update, while unchecked fields will adjust based on regular pay, bill, or markup changes.

Frequently Asked Questions:
-
Does this affect all templates, jobs, and placements in Bold?
Mostly, but changes mainly impact overtime-related fields and pay/bill/markup interactions. Straight-time templates, jobs, and placements are less affected. -
Do I need to coordinate with Avionté or update existing data?
No, this update applies automatically to all Bold customers. Existing templates, jobs, and placements update when edited—no manual migration is needed. -
Will this fix incorrect configurations or rates automatically?
No, existing setups won’t change automatically. Since the previous system had a single override checkbox for multiple fields, review and update templates, jobs, and placements as needed. New fields in the Active Consultants Report help track OT/DT pay, bill, and markup settings. -
How do the new checkboxes work?
Instead of a single “Custom Rates” checkbox for OT/DT pay, bill, and markups, each field now has its own override checkbox. Only check a box if manually setting a value—automatic updates won’t apply to checked fields. -
Why can I override only two of the three OT/DT markup, bill, or pay fields?
Since these fields are interrelated, overriding two fields automatically calculates the third to prevent errors. -
How do I set OT/DT pay and bill rates to update automatically using the same markup as regular rates?
Leave all OT/DT override checkboxes unchecked. The system will calculate rates using the standard markup percentage. -
How do I apply a custom OT/DT markup while keeping automatic pay and bill rate calculations?
Leave override checkboxes unchecked except for the OT/DT markup fields that differ from the standard percentage. The system will use the custom markup to calculate pay and bill rates. -
Has rounding accuracy improved?
Yes, pay, bill, and markup fields now support four decimal places, improving placement precision when passed to Classic Back Office on timesheets imported from Bold. -
What happens if I create a job with a zero pay or bill rate?
A yellow warning appears next to the field, alerting users but allowing zero-rate jobs when necessary. -
What if I accidentally place talent on a job with a zero pay or bill rate?
A pop-up confirmation warns users before finalizing the placement, helping prevent accidental zero-rate placements. -
Is there any impact on min/max pay or bill rate fields?
Automatic updates between target, min, and max rates have been removed, allowing target rates outside the advertised min/max range. -
Did any fields move?
Yes, in the template editor, job, and placement screens, pay, bill, OT, DT, and markup fields were repositioned for better organization.
Transition Planning for Bold Customers
The implementation of the new feature is a one-way change that cannot be reverted. Any issues impacting customers will need to be fixed going forward. We have been testing this new functionality with multiple enterprise customers for months to mitigate issues to the rest of our customers.
It would be recommended to review existing templates, jobs, and placements to ensure they are configured properly. If you're creating a new job from a template that doesn't seem to be correct -- you should review the template as there may be values overridden that you want to automatically calculate. Bold customers will need to determine what overrides should be set to on an individual template/job/placement level, but a general rule is "only check the override box if you do NOT want the field to be calculated automatically”.
Primary focus should be on templates, jobs, and placements that are configured for Overtime. Straight Time has minimal impact with the new functionality.
